News:

MPV (Monkeypox)

We are sharing the following  information from the Cook County Department of Public Health (CCDPH) about monkeypox (MPV) so you can stay informed and share information as needed. For more information about MPV, please visit the CCDPH’s website: https://cookcountypublichealth.org/communicable-diseases/monkeypox/

Since mid-May, the CDC, state and local health departments have been closely tracking an outbreak of monkeypox (MPV) that has spread across several countries that don’t normally report the disease, including the United States. On July 23, 2022, the World Health Organization declared MPV a Public Health Emergency of International Concern. On Aug. 1, 2022, Illinois Governor JB Pritzker declared MPV a public health emergency in the state of Illinois, to rapidly mobilize all available public health resources to prevent and treat MPV and ensure smooth coordination at all levels of government.

As noted on https://cookcountypublichealth.org/communicable-diseases/monkeypox/: “The risk to the general public in suburban Cook County is currently low.” As shown in the data on this page, as of August 10, 2022, CCDPH is reporting zero (0) cases of MPV in people 65 or older.

Anyone can get MPV. Currently vaccinations are targeted to highest risk groups for MPV (see FAQ – age is not a high risk indicator).

Attached is a document of Frequently Asked Questions (PDF). AgeOptions encourages you to review this FAQ as well as the CCDPH webpage (https://cookcountypublichealth.org/communicable-diseases/monkeypox/). You can download and share CCDPH informational materials on MPV at https://cookcountypublichealth.org/ccdph-monkeypox-communications-materials/ as you see fit.

COVID-19 and In-Home Vaccines

COVID-19 is a continuing public health emergency, and age is complicating factor for COVID-19. We just want to remind all of our partners that if you have any client in suburban Cook County who needs an initial first or second COVID-19 vaccination or a first or second booster shot, we can help. Read more about our in-home COVID-19 vaccination program at https://www.ageoptions.org/support-resources/emergency-preparedness/covid-19-alerts/ and please refer people for their COVID vaccinations. Reach out if you need any support in spreading the COVID-19 vaccine message.
